Open Election Data

The Open Election Data Project came up a few times on Monday. Socitm and the LGA have now published a joint note to encourage local authorities to take part in this.

You can most easily find a copy to download from the Socitm website, but I’ve also posted it in the libraries of the Web Improvement and Usage Community and the Open Election Data Community on the IDeA Communities of Practice platform.

The note explains – in plain English for non-technical people – the benefits of making election data open and provides information about support available to councils who want to make this happen.

For web managers and developers, implementation advice is available on the Open Election Data website and there’s a discussion forum in the Open Election Data Community.

Ideas for other ways to promote this initiative are welcome – some press activity is in train.
